Miami | Art Deco Weekend 2014

This past weekend, my momma and I took a trip down to Miami Beach for the 37th Annual Art Deco Weekend and had absolute blast!

We arrived around 11:30 AM on Saturday which gave us just enough time to find a place to park (traffic is cray!) and get to the booth where we to meet our guide for the Ocean Drive tour. The tour was a 90 minute walking tour where we learned about the architectural styles within the Miami Beach Architectural Historic District featured on hotels, restaurants, and other commercial buildings. The tour was really interested and the buildings are just stunningly awesome! The coolest one was a hotel called, The Carlyle, which is actually the hotel they used as the drag club in The Birdcage, which is one of the best movies ever! (Seriously, if you haven't seen it, go find it and watch it!)

After the tour, we raced back to the Art Deco Welcome Center for their fashion show. I was a little disappointed because I had a hard time seeing most of the show (#shortgirlprobz) because of the old men and photographers in front of me, but what I could see, was amazing. The clothes are soooo unbelievably eclectic and cute; I could totally live in that time period because they get to wear adorable leopard playsuits and ridiculously huge and bright resin jewelry! After the show, we ate (and drank, and drank, and drank lol) at Ocean's Ten restaurant where I had a Caprese Sandwitch that was delish and an Ocean's Potion cocktail which was raspberry and orange vodka with orange juice, pineapple, and cranberry, but my mom had this RIDICULOUSLY AMAZING Mudslide! Like how YUM does that thing look? Also, while we were eating they randomly started playing "Shots" by LMFAO and poured tequila into everyone's mouths out of the bottle. Unhygienic? Yes. Awesome? Very much so.

Post-lunch, we walked around a little bit and caught a glimpse of the car show, then checked into our hotel. Then took a nap. Real party animals we are, right? After we finished our nap, we got dressed up and hit Ocean Drive after dark, which was gorgeous with all of the neon lights. We went to La Baguette for dinner. The food was good, but we got these GINORMOUS like swimming pool-sized margaritas that were "2-for-1" but little did we know they were $55!! Ooops, but they were really good so it is what it is and there was a lot of drink up in that glass.

The following morning we had breakfast at Edgewater Hotel which was good and really inexpensive, then we sat on the beach for a little bit. The weather was chilly but it was so gorgeous and comfortable being out in the sun! At noon, it came time to check out of our hotel. So after we left, we drove around Miami a bit to see the downtown area, as well as a school that I'm looking into transferring to, and then hit up the Aventura Mall on our way back home.

All in all, we ate, drank, and enjoyed the view. We had a wonderful time and it was great being able to getaway for the weekend and spend some quality time with my mom. Hope you had a great weekend too!

XO, Lizzie
